Flawed Designs strives to bridge the gaps between disparate media, and find new ways to communicate the human experience.

​We work in various genres and mediums with a core of finding real human emotions in surreal situations. We have focused on showing the audience themselves within our art and giving them respite from their troubles, if only for a short time. In the future we hope to surpass this goal and inspire them to overcome their adversities, the difference between giving a person a fish and teaching them how to fish. ​

Flawed Designs is a Toronto based Multimedia Production Company that predominantly focuses on genre work, trying to find realistic reactions in unrealistic situations. 

The seeds of the company were planted as early as 2008, when artist Robin Careless started making short films in his home town of Ottawa.  Soon after, he shifted into the theatre scene where he founded Canada’s longest running shadowcast of the cult-classic movie Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008). Building a community of likeminded artists, their shared urge to tell interesting stories and connect people grew alongside a love of visual and digital media, which officially culminated in the creation of Flawed Designs in 2011.

In 2016, Dale Mulligan joined the company as a writer and producer.  His contribution has drawn the company’s style towards the Horror Genre, where they have found great success, having been nominated for and won several awards for their horror short films. 

In the midst of the pandemic, Flawed Designs partnered with Sequoia Erickson and Shadowland Theatre to develop Light & Shadow, a 2D Platformer about coping with anxiety and depression through music and finding moments of joy in one's life. The project melded cutscenes being filmed video of live action shadow puppetry, and the gameplay being digital versions of the same puppets and motions.  It was released in 2022, and holds a “Very Positive” review score on Steam 

In collaboration with like-minded artists, Flawed Designs has to date produced one video game, a feature film, and five short films.
